Associates for Biblical Research (ABR) today announces that the Near East Archaeological Society’s (NEAS) board of directors unanimously reelected two senior ABR associates for a second term as the organization's executive leaders for a second three-year term.

Dr. Scott Stripling, ABR’s senior vice president of archaeology and director of excavations at Shiloh, has been elected to a second term as president of NEAS. Dr. Mark Hassler, ABR’s editor of publications and a supervisor at the Shiloh excavations, has likewise been re-elected to a second term as vice president.

Under their leadership the past three years, NEAS has experienced significant growth and renewed momentum. Membership in the society has increased by nearly 40%, reflecting expanding interest in archaeology of the ancient Near East and the continued value that NEAS provides to scholars, students, and the wider academic community.

“We are honored to continue serving NEAS in these roles,” said Dr. Stripling. “The society plays a vital role in fostering rigorous archaeological research that sheds light on the ancient Near Eastern world, including its biblical connections.”

Dr. Hassler added, “It is a privilege to work alongside dedicated colleagues who are committed to excellence in scholarship. We look forward to another term of advancing NEAS’s mission and supporting its growing membership.”

Stripling and Hassler, along with Clyde Billington, serve as editors of a new NEAS Volume on ancient Near Eastern archaeology in honor of Professor Edwin Yamauchi, former NEAS president. The Festschrift is titled Scripture in Its Material and Literary Context: Historical, Archaeological, and Cultural Correlations, published by T&T Clark. The volume is scheduled for release in 2027.

NEAS (neasociety.org) exists to facilitate the involvement of evangelical Christians in research in the lands of the Bible and professional collaboration through its scholarships, peer-reviewed journal, and annual meeting. ABR is grateful for the opportunity to support this mission through the service of its staff members.
